According to the Viet Nam Customs, in Jan – May, Viet Nam earned approximately US$672 million from exporting 263,170MT of Pangasius, up 24.7% in value and 4.7% in volume.
Pangasius export is expected to hit a record US$800 million in the first six months of the year.
In order to stabilize the supply of raw material and export price from July to the end of the year, Vasep Freshwater Fish Committee (VFFC) held a meeting with 25 biggest Pangasius exporters and Dong Thap and An Giang Fish Farming Associations to set the floor prices for export.
Accordingly, price of trimmed and untrimmed Pangasius fillet shipped abroad (except US) were fixed at US$3.3/kilo and US$2.3/kilo, respectively.
The participants also agreed to buy raw fish at VND26,000 at minimum.
Between July and November, farm-gate price is expected to be higher due to increasing input costs the lower supply.
Vasep also warned any exporters, which involve in frauds, will be inspected and punished.
