Vietnam Seafood production reached 4.2 million MT

In October 2010, total seafood production of Vietnam reached 447 thousand MT, up 4.4% over the same month of 2009 in which, fish accounted for 320 thousand MT, up 4.6%, shrimp 58.7 thousand MT, up 6.3%.

In the first 10 months of 2010, seafood production has reached 4.24 million MT, up 4.7% compared to the same period of 2009 in which fish represented 3.19 million MT, up 4.5%, shrimp 470 thousand MT, up 6.3%.

Marine fishing production in October 2010 reached 145 thousand MT and in the first 10 months of 2010 has reached 2 million MT, up 4.6% against  the same period of 2009.

In the reported month, aquaculture production reached 240 thousand MT, in which 173 thousand MT of fish, up 4.8%, 45 thousand MT of shrimp, up 7.1% compared to the same month of 2009. Total aquaculture production in the first 10 months of 2010 has reached 2.24 million MT, up 3% over last year.

Compared to the same period of 2009, farmed shrimp output is good due to the area and yield of whiteleg shrimp increase. In contrast, pangasius raw materials price increases but pangasius production still faces many difficulties because of high input price.
