Jan – March: Strong growth in Vietnam shrimp export

According to Viet Nam Customs, in Q1/2011, the country shipped 43,500MT of shrimp, worth US$398 million, up 23 percent in volume and 36 percent in value against the same period last year.

Japan, the US and EU remained the three largest markets of Vietnamese shrimp in this period, claiming respectively 24 percent, 21 percent and 19 percent of the market share.

Exports to ten largest markets all experienced two-digit growth. Exports to Russia increased most rapidly, i.e. 789.5 percent in volume and 814 percent in value, followed by Canada (153 percent in volume and 171 percent in value).

In the first quarter of this year, shrimp has been exported to 67 markets worldwide, up more than 10% comparison with the same period last year. Shrimp export is expected to further increase thanks to the positive result of the US Department of Commerce administrative review over anti-dumping tariff on Vietnamese shrimp.
